Casa Lume is a six-room guesthouse in a restored Lisbon townhouse. The owners wanted guests to feel as though they were staying with friends rather than in a hotel. We worked with the building’s thick walls, curved stair, and changing daylight, using lime plaster, local stone, and handmade ceramics to create a calm interior. Each room has its own character, held together by a shared sense of warmth.

The Brief

The building had strong bones but a tired interior. The owners needed rooms that felt individual, worked well for short stays, and would be easy to maintain through busy seasons.

The Approach

We kept the original stair and window reveals as the anchors of the design. Soft tonal contrasts move from room to room, and furniture was sourced from regional makers where possible. Lighting stays low and warm, so the house feels gentle from day to evening.
